Bayesian model selection for time series using Markov chain Monte Carlo

چکیده
We present a stochastic simulation technique for subset selection in time series models, based on the use of indicator variables with the Gibbs sampler within a hierarchical Bayesian framework. As an example, the method is applied to the selection of subset linear AR models, in which only signi cant lags are included. Joint sampling of the indicators and parameters is found to speed convergence. We discuss the possibility of model mixing where the model is not well determined by the data, and the extension of the approach to include non-linear model terms.

Bayesian Inference and Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods Applied to Streamflow Forecasting
In this work we propose a Bayesian approach for the parameter estimation problem of stochastic autoregressive models of order p, AR(p), applied to the streamflow forecasting problem. Procedures for model selection, forecasting and robustness evaluation through Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) simulation techniques are also presented. The proposed approach is compared with the classical one by Bo...
متن کاملBayesian Analysis of Time-Varying Quantiles Using a Smoothing Spline
A smoothing spline is considered to propose a novel model for the time-varying quantile of the univariate time series using a state space approach. A correlation is further incorporated between the dependent variable and its one-step-ahead quantile. Using a Bayesian approach, an efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm is described where we use the multi-move sampler, which generates simult...
متن کاملA Bayesian Approach to Estimating the Long Memory Parameter
We develop a Bayesian procedure for analyzing stationary long-range dependent processes. Specifically, we consider the fractional exponential model (FEXP) to estimate the memory parameter of a stationary long-memory Gaussian time series. In particular, we propose a hierarchical Bayesian model and make it fully adaptive by imposing a prior distribution on the model order. Further, we describe a ...
متن کاملBayesian analysis of autoregressive moving average processes with unknown orders
A Bayesian model selection for modelling a time series by an autoregressive–moving–average model (ARMA) is presented. The posterior distribution of unknown parameters and the selected orders are obtained by the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. An MCMC algorithm that represents the parameters of the model as a point process has been implemented. The method is illustrated on simulated seri...
متن کاملBayesian analysis of GARCH and stochastic volatility: modeling
This paper develops a Bayesian model comparison for two broad major classes of varying volatility model, GARCH and stochastic volatility (SV) models on financial time series. The leverage effect, jumps and heavy-tailed errors are incorporated into the two models. For estimation, the efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are developed and the model comparisons are examined based on the marg...
